Putting On The Pounds May Mean Added Asthma Risk

By Patt Carpenter The more you weigh, the less you may be able to breathe. New research suggests that overweight and obese individuals in Dallas, Houston and throughout Texas are 50 percent more likely to develop asthma than normal-weight men and women. Public health efforts to control asthma should therefore emphasize the importance of healthy weight management, the study researchers reported. "The bottom line is that being overweight appears to significantly increase the risk of asthma," said study co-author Dr. E. Rand Sutherland, of the National Jewish Medical and Research Center (NJMRC) in Denver. "But the caveat is that, until further studies are done, it won't be clear exactly what type or severity of asthma is present in obese people." According to the U.S. National Institutes of Health, asthma is an incurable but usually controllable chronic disease involving inflammation and narrowing of the airways that carry oxygen into and out of the lungs. The disease, which affects approximately 20 million Americans, including 9 million children, typically provokes recurrent wheezing, coughing, and a hypersensitivity to allergies. A recent national survey found that about 65 percent of Americans are either obese or overweight, and research has long suggested links between asthma and obesity. In this study, researchers pored over prior data on the body mass indices (BMI) -- measurements of body fat based on the height and weight -- of adult asthma patients. They looked at data from seven prior studies conducted between 1966 and 2006 in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Together, these studies had looked at the relationship between BMI and asthma in more than 333,000 severely asthmatic patients. During data review, the study adopted standard BMI yardsticks, which define "normal weight" as having a BMI of under 25, "overweight" as a BMI between 25 and 29, and "obese" as a BMI more than 30. For example, a person who is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 145 pounds has a BMI of 22. The odds of developing asthma grew by 50 percent among patients with a BMI of 25 and up, and the risk climbed as the pounds piled on, the study found. Women and men appeared to be equally susceptible to the weight-asthma association, they added. Based on the findings, the researchers believe asthma should be added to the long list of diseases -- including diabetes, sleep apnea, stroke, cardiovascular illness, and arthritis -- for which excess weight is a risk factor. And, because two-thirds of the U.S. adult population is now thought to be obese or overweight, that means millions more Americans may be at risk of developing asthma than was previously thought, the study reported. On the up side, "significant weight loss" could potentially reduce asthma cases by as many as 250,000 each year, the researchers noted. Not every overweight person with respiratory symptoms necessarily has asthma, however. The experts noted that excess weight can cause lung volume reduction, chest wall restriction, and breathlessness unrelated to the disease. How's Your Elevator Pitch?

By Mike Myatt One of the first and most important professional communication techniques I was taught in business was the importance of developing an Elevator Pitcha very short statement describing what it is that you do. In fifty words or less (about 30 45 seconds) you should be able to communicate who you are, what you do, who you do it for and how people benefit from what you do. What I have come to realize over the years, is that while even the most novice of sales people tend to have an elevator pitch, very few C-suite executives or entrepreneurs have adopted the practice. Moreover, most of the elevator pitches that I hear are not very effective and have obviously not been refined to the point of becoming a strategic advantage. In fact many times even if the professional has developed an elevator pitch, they dont use it. Its almost as if there is some unwritten rule that once youve achieved a certain station in life that you can ignore the basic fundamentals of good business and coast along resting solely on your laurelsIt is the people that subscribe to this theory that seem to fall the farthest, fastest and hardestI would strongly recommend that wherever you are in your career that you always pay attention to the basics that made you the successful person that you are today. I believe so strongly in the value of a good elevator pitch that I have developed nearly 20 different variations which allow for their appropriate use based on environment, audience, need, service line, time availability, context, and situation. This gives me the ability to make a quick assessment of the situation at hand and to put my proverbial best foot forward. A well crafted elevator pitch will allow you to introduce yourself with credibility that engenders confidence while you are communicating a strong benefit statement that addresses a fear, need or potential painful situationPut simply, it sets the hook. Here is the technique that I use and that I teach to my clients: My name is (name, title, company) I specialize in assisting (target audience) with (value proposition). This can normally be done in fifty words or less (if the introduction has already been made with significantly fewer words) which can then be followed up by a short example of how you can help someone achieve their goal, overcome their fear or avoid a painful situationFollowing are a few examples of my elevator pitches: Version 1: This is my informal version that I use when the introduction has already been made and Im asked what I do for a livingI help people align their energies and efforts with their passions because its simply been my experience that most peoples daily actions are not in true alignment with their goals. 30 words Version 2: My name is Mike Myatt. Im the managing director at N2growth and we specialize in helping executives build a dominant personal brand so that they can achieve both increased job security and maximize earnings ability. 35 words Version 3: My name is Mike Myatt. Im the managing director at N2growth and we specialize in helping executives who are not happy with their current situation by serving as a catalyst for positive change and growth. 35 words Version 4: My name is Mike Myatt. Im the managing director at N2growth and we specialize in assisting C-suite executives and entrepreneurs with growing their revenue, their talent and their brand. 29 words Version 5: My name is Mike Myatt. Im the managing director at N2growth and we specialize in taking executives who are spread too thin and show them how to regain control by maximizing their impact and leveraging their resources. 37 words Each of the elevator pitches above has a short story that provides an example in support the statement made and demonstrates how weve been successful at achieving the desired outcome with others. A good elevator pitch can be used as a personal or corporate branding tool that can serve you well in both business and social environments. It can serve as an introduction or calling card, an ice-breaker or attention grabber, the lead-in to a sales presentation, VC or private equity pitch, a networking tool or a myriad of other beneficial applications. Create your elevator pitch todaythen practice it, never stop refining it, and most importantly, use it frequently. Mike Myatt is the Chief Strategy Officer at N2growth. Hungry? South African Food Offers An Amazing Variety in Dishes

By Sarah H Many people get fed up of eating the same thing for dinner week after week. For those who have an adventurous palette South African food can be a great change! The incredible blend of cooking style, presentation and spices can be attributed to this nations incredible history. South Africa has emerged as a polyglot cuisine. Many factors have contributed to this, such as: European colonization, the adaptation of the native Bantu cooking, and massive immigration of foreigners and workers. The Dutch settlers brought with them their specific forms of agriculture, and the British merchants imported the "mixed grills" that now include African game meats. French cultivated the vineyards, known worldwide today. The Malay contribution was the curries, adding spice to a traditionally drab English-Dutch influence. The Indians of the British Empire who came to construct railroads influenced South African cuisine with dals, lentil soups, and curries. Game meat or as it is often called: wild meat, and lamb, the famous South African lobster, and a wide variety of fish add to a truly cosmopolitan cuisine. However in the smaller towns where mostly native Africans reside, the main meals remain starch and stew based. South Africa's most unusual meat is called Biltong. Its a spicy form of jerky, usually wind-dried, and is commonly used in traveling. This can be found not only country wide, but throughout Africa. African villages boast of the more traditional African foods. The villagers diet often consist of milk, curds and whey, and dishes of steamed or boiled green vegetables, peas, beans, and cereals. And of course not a day can go by without the starches: cassava, yams, and sweet potatoes. Outside of Muslim Africa, alcoholic beverages contribute to an integral part of the African diet. South Africa is celebrated for the production of good quality white and red wines. In addition to this South Africa also produces a tangerine based liqueur called Van Der Hum. Tusker, the famous Kenyan beer, is exported for those who want to recreate a meal. Beer goes well with most African cuisine. South Africa is home to numerous population groups with different languages, cultural backgrounds and origins. The province of Natal is home to about one million Indians, whose forefathers came to South Africa to work on the sugarcane plantations. In addition to this there are also about three million people of mixed race, commonly dubbed "coloureds," living in the Cape region. They are descendants of the first Dutch settlers and the native population of the Cape (Khoikhoi) or the Malays, who were taken to South Africa as slaves from East India in the 18th century. Thus South African cuisine is a true reflection of the cooking talents and traditions of all these peoples. Top 10 Holiday Weight Loss Tips

By Mayur Vibhakar Ahh... These are the days of festivities, joy, pleasure and plenty of eating and drinking. Nothing like the holidays! BUT it comes at a price. If you're not careful about your nutritional intake you might end up with extra unneeded weight. This article will list important do able holiday weight loss tips and supplements that help with weight loss. 1. Take Charge The first step to weight loss is setting a realistic goal. By using a BMI chart and consulting with your health-care provider, you can determine what a healthy weight is for you. If you plan to lose more than 15 to 20 pounds, have any health problems, or take medication on a regular basis, a doctor should evaluate you before you begin a weight loss program. 2. Are you overweight? Overweight refers to an excess of body weight, but not necessarily body fat. Obesity means an excessively high proportion of body fat. Health professionals use a measurement called body mass index (BMI) to classify an adult's weight as healthy, overweight, or obese. BMI describes body weight relative to height and is correlated with total body fat content in most adults. To get your approximate BMI, multiply your weight in pounds by 703, then divide the result by your height in inches, and divide that result by your height in inches a second time. (Or you can use the interactive BMI calculator at www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmicalc.htm.) A BMI from 18.5 up to 25 is considered in the healthy range, from 25 up to 30 is overweight and 30 or higher is obese. Generally, the higher a person's BMI, the greater the risk for health problems, according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). However, there are some exceptions. For example, very muscular people, like body builders, may have a BMI greater than 25 or even 30, but this reflects increased muscle rather than fat. In addition to a high BMI, having excess abdominal body fat is a health risk. Men with a waist of more than 40 inches around and women with a waist of 35 inches or more are at risk for health problems. 3. Change eating habits Dieting may conjure up visions of eating lettuce and sprouts--but you can enjoy all foods as part of a healthy diet as long as you don't overdo it on fat (especially saturated fat), protein, sugars, and alcohol. To be successful at losing weight, you need to change your lifestyle--not just go on a diet, experts say. Limit portion sizes, especially of foods high in calories, such as cookies, cakes and other sweets; french fries; and fats, oils and spreads. Reducing dietary fat alone--without reducing calories--will not produce weight loss, according to the NHLBI's guidelines on treating overweight and obesity in adults. Eat less and move more. Your body needs to burn more calories than you take in. 4. Increase physical activity Most health experts recommend a combination of a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity for weight loss. Most adults should get at least 30 minutes and children should get 60 minutes of moderate physical activity on most, and preferably all, days of the week. Exercise does not have to be strenuous to be beneficial and some studies show that short sessions of exercise several times a day are just as effective at burning calories and improving health as one long session. 5. De-stress yourself The holiday season can be stressful and in some individuals this may lead to overeating due to stress further leading to increase in weight. If you identify yourself as one these people and feel the need to eat in between meals then at least eat healthy instead of munching on chips and cookies etc try veggies and fruits. 6. Don't skip meals Otherwise it will encourage you to over eat at the next meal. If you have to snack in between meals try snacking on fruits and veggies. 7. Food Allergies Make note of foods you are allergic to. Food allergies disrupt metabolism and thus hinder weight loss. 8. Crash Diets Avoid them. They are mostly self-defeating and serve only as a temporary band-Aid solution. 9. Drink plenty of water To flush out the toxins from your body. 10. Tips for Eating Out Choose foods that are steamed, broiled, baked, roasted, poached or stir-fried. Share food, such as a main dish or dessert, with your dining partner. Take part of the food home with you, and refrigerate immediately. You may want to ask for a take-home container when the meal arrives. Spoon half the meal into it, so you're more likely to eat only what's left on your plate. Request your meal to be served without gravy, sauces, butter or margarine. Ask for salad dressing on the side, and use only small amounts of full-fat dressings. No Laughing matter We're putting on the pounds at an alarmingly rapid rate. And we're sacrificing our health for the sake of super size portions, biggie drinks, and two-for-one value meals, obesity researchers say. More than 60 percent of U.S. adults are either overweight or obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). While the number of overweight people has been slowly climbing since the 1980s, the number of obese adults has nearly doubled since then. Besides the above weight loss tips certain supplements may also help in weight loss. Some of these supplements are listed below. 1. GREEN TEA (Popular for weight loss, also a powerful antioxidant) 2. Garcinia Combogia 3. Chromium Picolinate 4. Flaxseed Oil 5. Lecithin 6. L-Carnitine 7. Fennel 8. Fenugreek (c)Mayur Vibhakar - All rights reserved.

Marketing Quandaries

By Alicia Smith Being in a quandary prevents you from moving forward in developing and marketing your business. When were in a quandary, we are in a state of perplexity and doubt. We dont know how to move forward to accomplish those things that are crucial to attracting clients and growing our business. One of the first things we need to recognize about being in a quandary is that we are, in fact, in one! There are a number of easy, simple things that you can start doing today to get yourself out of that place of being stuck. 1. Craft a business plan and review it quarterly. A business plan is your strategy for guiding your business towards the success you envision. It is a roadmap. It will serve to guide you from where you are today to where you want to be. It includes important items like defining your business niche and target market, your marketing plan, financial projections, staffing, investments, as well as the benefits and features of your products and services. If you dont have a plan to follow, your chances of achieving success are greatly diminished. Plans remind us of what we are doing and why. They help to keep us on track and provide a benchmark to which we can compare our actual progress. 2. Write down weekly goals and measure your performance. One of the best ways to become unstuck is to write down what we want to accomplish. Several important things happen as a result. First, writing something down makes it more real. You take your ideas that are swimming around in your head and you put pencil to paper and start making them a reality. Second, by writing down your goals, it helps you to become more clear about what you want to accomplish. Fuzzy goals result in fuzzy outcomes. Writing will help you gain more clarity. Finally, by keeping a written record of what you intend to do, youre automatically providing yourself with a handy checklist against which you can measure your performance. 3. Revisit your marketing plan monthly. Your marketing plan, one subset of your overall business plan, is fundamental to your business success. It includes your strategies for selling your product or service. It typically includes a marketing calendar, which lays out your plans week by week and month by month of what you intend to do. Your activities might include placing advertisements, public speaking engagements, publishing articles, teaching seminars or workshops, attending networking events, or publishing a weekly column in a newspaper. Each of these activities needs to be carefully defined, scheduled in your marketing calendar, executed, and measured for effectiveness. Its crucial to track what you are doing to market your business so you can make adjustments along the way to do more of what works and less of what doesnt work. Revisit and revise your marketing plan monthly. 4. Watch the trends. When youre in business for yourself, there is a lot to be said for keeping up with the Joneses. As a businessperson it is important to be aware of the trends, the fads, and the current group think. This information provides valuable input to help you either develop new products or services for your clientele, or to repackage, repurpose, or reposition the ones you currently have. While we might not care for the current trends, the fact is they do influence customer sentiment and what they will buy from you. You need to make sure consumers understand your marketing and that it speaks to them and the current issues they may be facing. 5. Survey your clients. One quick way to get out of a marketing quandary is to survey your clients and find out what theyre thinking, what they like, what they dont like, and what they most want. When in doubt, just ask. There are a variety of ways you can survey your clients. You can call them up for an informal chat, you can send them a survey through the mail, or better yet, you can send them an electronic survey, which you can create either for free or for a low fee through a variety of means including www.advancedsurvey.com, www.surveymonkey.com, or www.zoomerang.com. If you need ideas or feedback, there is no better way to get it than through doing a survey. 6. Analyze your clients. Sit back and consider the types of clients that you do business with. Most folks never take the time to do this, yet this simple exercise can yield an abundance of valuable information. Profile your clients. You might even want to make notes on a piece of paper. What is the mix of men to women, what are their ages, their interests, their family profile, their occupations, their hobbies, their income level? This information, alone, can tell you not only the types of clients that you attract, but also you may find some commonalities among these folks. This might help to spark new ideas for products or services to develop. It might even open the door to an opportunity to partner with a client. 7. Keep in touch. Keeping your finger on the pulse of what is happening is one way to avoid being in a marketing quandary. Maintain an awareness of the latest trends and fads, especially the ones that would influence folks in buying your products and services. Network with others so that you can develop new business relationships. Keep in touch with your current clients so that you can continue to cultivate these relationships and build the promise of future referrals. And, interface with your professional colleagues, even those with whom you compete, as you can benefit yourself and your clients by having someone to whom you can refer others. Keeping in touch with colleagues, clients, and everyone in between is the best way to ensure that you have the latest and greatest information by which to steer your business. 8. Dont do it alone. A quick way out of any place of inaction is to get into action. A great way to do that is to find someone else to partner with. A strategic alliance is not only a wonderful opportunity to combine your talents with that of someone else, its a great way to share ideas from which both of you can benefit. You can accomplish much more and more quickly by working with someone else. Youll also have the added benefit of making new contacts, possibly increasing your own client base if you share that information, and, of course, youll add to your own professional toolkit. If there is something new you want to learn or do and you dont have the expertise, seek out someone else who might be able to help. 9. Create an R & D team. One of the most common reasons for getting stuck is the lack of input. If you dont have any new input, its difficult to determine the best course of action when it comes to developing your business. Youll never be at a loss for valuable feedback if you create your very own research and development team. You can easily create an informal group of clients, friends, and colleagues who can give you feedback about current products or services you offer or ones you hope to debut in the future. One of the best ways to determine if your ideas have merit is by asking others about them. By presenting these folks with your ideas, samples or even the actual product or service itself, theyll be able to give you valuable feedback before you commit a significant amount of resources. Companies in every industry make use of R & D teams before committing substantial and expensive resources towards the release of a particular product. You can do exactly the same thing. 10. Learn something new and implement it. New input is sometimes all you need to get yourself going again. Challenge yourself to learn something new and not just for the sake of learning. Think about something new that you would like to do for your business. Craft a goal around what you would like to do, carefully spelling out the details along with a due date for completion. Writing down this goal will help to make it a reality. Then go out and seek the knowledge you need to make this happen. Consult experts. By learning something new and implementing it in your own business, youll not only increase your knowledge and value, but youll be opening your business up to new opportunities. We all need new input to create new output. Learn something new that will make a difference to you personally and professionally. The Basics of Divorce Law - Child Support

By Everett Sizemore According to Meislik & Levavy, the underlying principle behind child support is that children of divorced parents have a right to be supported in accordance with the standard of living they had during their parents marriage. The amount is based upon what an intact family with a certain level of income would spend for their child. How do courts determine how much you pay in child support?
Each state has its own guidelines that courts must follow when determining child support payments. Your family law attorney should be knowledgeable about those guidelines, which will allow them to provide you with a preliminary calculation. However, these are merely guidelines and not rules. How long do you have to pay child support?
In most cases, child support payments stop when the child graduates from high school or completes four years of college. However, depending on the situation and where your divorce takes place, these timelines may differ. Some states require you to continue paying child support until the child is 21- years old. Other factors might include whether the child is still living with the other parent, has been married, entered the armed forces or passed away. After a certain age, your child may have the option to be emancipated, in which case you would no longer be required to pay child support. However, regardless of how often you and your child see each other (even if not at all), you are still required to pay child support until one of these other factors have affected the arrangement. Where can you find child support laws in your state?
The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is responsible for federal programs that promote the economic and social well-being of families and children. You can find their agencies listed by state here. New Jersey parents can contact Family Lawyers, Meislik & Levavy or check the child support guidelines at the NJ government resource, here. Riverside DUI Attorneys

Market Segmentation - Psychographic Method

By Mary Anne Winslow Market segmentation is definitely one of the most significant parts of the marketing process. In this article I will examine the car industry in the UK. We will mostly concentrate on the psychographic method of the segmentation. The weaknesses and strengths of the method will be discussed here. I will also look at several other market segmentation methods in the car industry. Market segmentation is an essential part of the marketing process. It
allows firms to allocate their market into groups that have the same
similarities which are relevant for decision making in the marketing
strategy. Then firms can target their market to serve
it effectively, they can differentiate the market, define the
opportunities and threats and tailor the marketing mix. To be useful, segments selected should
be measurable, substantial, accessible, differentiable and actionable.
The market can be segmented in different ways; the
three most popular techniques used are: behavioural segmentation which
analyse benefit sought, purchase occasion, purchase behaviour, usage
and perception and beliefs; the second is psychographic segmentation
which analyse the lifestyle and the personality of consumers and the
third is profile segmentation which base its researches on
demographic, socio-economic and geographic variables. Researches show that there is no exact definition for psychographics
The basic basis of psychographic research is that the
more firms know and understand about their customers the more
effectively they can communicate to them.
Psychographic research can identify similar values, attitude, and
lifestyle or personality groups, but the two main variables used in
psychographic segmentation are the lifestyle and the personality of
the customer: Personality is an individual's pattern of character that
influences behavioural responses such as self-confidence, dominance,
sociability. This variable is important to be understood because
people tend to see themselves in a way and purchase products to
satisfy their self-concept so people see them in the way they want.
Lifestyle is a person's pattern of living as expressed in this or her
interests, opinions and activities. It is considered to be a rich
descriptor of people buying patterns. Often, people buy brands because
those brands relate to their way of living.
For example a successful businessman in his late thirties will buy a
BMW because the image the brand shows in its advertisement is power,
success and high standard of living. Psychographics are necessary to
firms because they can investigate into specific product category and
brand decisions by consumers and can be used to paint the big picture
of consumer lifestyle. Psychographics has proven to be a very useful tool for organisations
in their marketing research. It identifies target markets that could
not be isolated using only demographic variables.
Psychographics are designed to measure the consumer's
predisposition to buy a product, the influences that stimulate buying
behaviour, and the relationship between the consumer's perception of
the product benefits and his/her lifestyle, interests and opinions.
Often researchers have turned to psychographics
because of the limitation encountered in demographics. An advantage of
psychographics is that it describes segments in terms directly
relevant to advertisement campaign and market planning decisions of
organisations. It has also appealed marketers
for its power to combine the richness of "motivational research" with
the statistical sophistication of computer analyses and, provide
corporate strategists with rich descriptive details for developing
marketing strategy; it has the ability to give
marketers a big image of the consumer's lifestyle. There is also the
appealing advantage that psychographic segments which are developed
for markets in one geographic location are generalizable to market in
other geographic locations. Psychographics are
essential for discovering both the explicit and the hidden
psycho-social motives that so often spell the difference between
acceptance or rejection of the brand. But psychographics have limitations. Researchers have found
reliability problems: first there are no standardized methods to
evaluate the stability of results of psychographic techniques and
incertitude in this area weakens predictive power. Therefore it will
throw doubts in whether the segment and market targeted are reliable
or not. The main problem is that psychographics attempt to measure
intangible and diffuse concepts, values and attitudes are not easy to
measure as every single person has a different personality and
consequently have different opinions and interests. It has also been
point out by that there is little cross-study
evidence on reliability so findings cannot be compared and improved. The car industry in the United Kingdom is very large but is resumed by
two monopolies: the first one is a monopoly in favour of Ford which
owns most of the leading brands. The second is another monopoly which
is described as a "complex monopoly situation arising from the
selective and exclusive distribution system used by most car suppliers
in the United Kingdom." by the United Kingdom Parliament. The UK has the biggest used car market in Europe: of the 26 million
cars on the British road only 2 million have been bought new in the
past twelve months (United Kingdom Parliament (1998) Jaguar creates cars for customers that are seeking distinctive saloons
and sports cars which deliver "stimulating performance and captivating
style". They have built an image for their cars which
corresponds to what their potential buyers want to identify themselves
with. The company is seeking to reflect the individuality of its
consumers. Its image is one of luxury, sport and freedom to inspire
people. Jaguar uses psychographics since a big part of the customer's
purchase decision process is based on values, self-concept and
attitudes. Jaguar need to know its customers, their personality and
their self-concept to create a car up to their expectation and reflect
the lifestyle they have. Volvo is another brand of car that has a very different target market.
Volvo uses psychographics to segment their market. They create cars
aiming mainly at "modern families". They analyse
what are the attitude and values of families towards cars, what are
the lifestyle of today's families: research showed that families were
going away for holidays and needed big cars that are able to be
reliable and provide comfort for the whole family. It has been found
that today, families go to the beach but also to the mountain. So
Volvo created cars that allowed families to purchase car to suit their
lifestyle. They also had to analyse the personality and the
self-concept of those families. A family that want freedom, that is
adventurous. And this is reflected in Volvo's advertising campaign. So
when people watch those advertisements they can rely on it and
identify themselves with the image they are giving out. Other methods of segmentation are used in the UK car industry such as
demographics or geographic. But often those methods, particularly in
the car industry, need to be supplemented with other data, even if
some researchers such as Ziff affirmed that "as demographic is
based on the ground that demographic groups are relatively homogenous,
it does not need psychographics to distinct customer's behaviour."
Demographics can turn up objective facts
such as tell that the target customer owns a car but it will not be
able to tell why the person bought the car; this "why" is told by
psychographics. In order to be successful, the car industry must know
its consumers: their age, their sex, their marital status, their
income, their purchase behaviour such as if they are brand loyal or if
they are innovators. Jaguar keep record of every single client and
follow them for up to four years to know everything about their
satisfaction, their complaint, so they are able to measure the number
of clients that are brand loyal. Both Volvo and
Jaguar saw a new target market in women and developed design to satisfy
their wants. In order to serve this new and growing market, identified
through demographics, those firms will need to use psychographics
because women have different attitudes, values, personalities and
lifestyle than men. They will also need to know what their
expectations are and what issues they think are most important when
they buy a car. For example, women may be more focused on safety and
design while men may be more careful about their image and the
performance of the car. Mary Anne Winslow is a member of Essay Writing Servicecounselling department team and a dissertation writing consultant. Marketing Tip: Don't Be 'Outcome Oriented' in Your Sales Pitches

By Mark Merenda Most attorneys hate selling. For them, the preferred method of gaining clients is through referrals. That's because business that is referred to them comes, in effect, pre-sold. They have third-party credibility. The same attorneys hate "tire-kickers" and people who shop and compare prices. They would rather that every prospective client walked into their office waving their checkbook, suitably grateful for the opportunity to sit down in front of such an august personage. But in the real world, how do you sell that prospect in your office, however they arrived there? How do you "close" them? My advice is to proceed as if each and every prospect is already your client. I advise my clients that the goal of a consultation is not to come away with a contract, retainer, or check. The goal is to bond emotionally with the potential client. The goal is to form a relationship. The goal is to be helpful. If your potential client comes out of that meeting saying, "Wow, that John Jones is the nicest guy I ever met," then I promise you, Mr. Jones, you will have more sales than you can handle. The true test is how you behave if the prospect leaves your office without committing, or even turns you down flat. When I was about 12 years old, I sent in some sort of response card that provoked a visit from a salesman for Encyclopedia Britannica. The man met with me and my bemused parents and made a wonderful presentation. But the fact is, my parents weren't ready to shell out several hundred dollars for something that was accessible for free in the public library. "I'm sorry for wasting your time," I said to the man. He smiled. "I'm never wasting my time when I'm talking about the Encyclopedia Britannica," he said. I was enormously impressed, and about a year later we wound up buying the full set of encyclopedias from the salesman. Some 40 years later, my sister still has them. Likewise, I would advise you to be "process oriented" in your sales presentations and less "outcome oriented." If you have presented your service well, and have bonded emotionally (made friends with) your potential client, then you have had a great consultation. You have been successful. Some will become your clients, and some will not, but all can be your friends and advocates. Remember that you are never wasting your time when you are telling a prospective client about yourself and your services. There is much to be learned -- about their needs, their concerns, their objections -- in every meeting. It is your privilege to meet with them. Remember, too, your karma. I strongly believe that what you sow, you will reap -- perhaps not from the client sitting in front of you, and perhaps not this week, but as surely as the sun will rise and set, what goes around comes around. Can We Reduce Bodyfat from Our Arms Without Affecting Other Areas of Your Body?

By Josh Stone Hi DM, What should I do to reduce the size of my arms? By that I mean, arms only (without affecting other areas of my body). I do weights, but it only tones my arms, and the size doesnt change much, the 'flesh' is still there Mei Dear Mei, Spot reduction my dear.. is a myth. There is absolutely NO NATURAL WAY you can exercise your body so that it releases its fat stores from a particular area. Fat loss happens all over your body, and the places where your bodyfat deposits most easily (for women, these are the hips, thighs) would also be the place where there's more fat release when you exercise. Perhaps a little similar to the First-in-First-Out principle, where it can then be best described as the region where bodyfat is most deposited on your body would also be the region where it is most easily released. And yes, this simply means that the stubborn places where the fat 'just doesnt seem to go'.. would be that last to show results... but just keep persevering. You mentioned that you weight train.. so I'm sure you'll only reveal a more gorgeous you! I think the reason you're holding back from a weightloss plan is because you've sunk into a 'comfort zone' and are happy with how you look every other part of your body.. which is fantastic, don't get me wrong! But what I'm trying to tell you in your case, is not to be afraid of getting leaner. If you're unhappy with some extra bodyfat on various parts of your body.. cardio/dieting is the answer. Endless arm exercises or 100 million situps is not the answer (notice how packed the ab machines are at the gym? somebody should tell them they're better off concentrating that effort on cardio!!). If you're in great physical shape/exercise frequently (which I believe you are.. based on the positive way you talk about your own physique) .. i believe there's no way you can be unhappy with the outcome. Also, remember that your body is an amazing machine... it won't allow you to lose fat to an extent where you won't look good. The only thing that can happen.. is that you'll look how you're supposed to look like. Now how can that ever be bad? Also don't be afraid of training too hard, or getting arms that are 'too muscular', etc.. just give it your best.. simply because you don't have the hormones and the genetic capability to look like a freak. In periods of weightloss, I've personally experienced people coming up to me and saying that I've lost too much weight that I look sick, and that I shouldnt continue.. but weeks later.. they'd come up to me and say that I actually look much better. The problem with people, and sometimes we ourselves, is that we've grown accustomed to the imperfectness that surrounds us. Yes, nobody is perfect, but there is always room for improvement if you only try. If a friend who was overweight/or perhaps carrying a bit more bodyfat than he/she should be, but is still a healthy person, and if he/she were to ask me - am I fat? I would definitely tell them the truth. You should too, but in a tactful way. Honestly, if a few people from my past never told it to me in my face.. I don't think I'd be where I am today. So, my advice to you Mei, would be : 1. Not to neglect your arm exercises, just keep doing what you're doing and at the same time, don't get obsessed about keeping count of rep ranges, etc. 2. Bump up your cardio. Always go for a minimum of 40 minutes of if weightloss is your goal. Don't be afraid of fatloss or that you would lose what you already like about yourself. 3. Watch what you eat! An awesome physique begins in the kitchen.. not at the gym So, what you'll be doing is basically maintaining your weight training so that your body will hold on to its muscle mass (you need this for your arms to look femininely good too!), while reducing your calorie intake/bumping up your cardio to trigger fatloss in your body. Do it long enough.. and you will see results. I promise you. The Buzz About Medical Honey

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Frank_Buonanotte] Frank Buonanotte Ancient Egyptians treated injuries with honey, and World War II doctors dressed wounds with it. Now honey is back on the medical scene, thanks to a company called Honeymark International. Honeymark makes creams, solutions, lotions and other products that treat conditions such as Eczema, Arthritis, wounds, nail fungus, etc. "The view about honey is changing dramatically," says Frank Buonanotte, CEO of Honeymark International. "At one point in the near future, people will be viewing honey as being more than just something we put in our tea. What most people don't know is that honey can be extremely effective in dressing wounds and relieving certain skin conditions." Honeymark uses a particular type of honey known as "Manuka Honey" that is found primarily in the New Zealand region. This type of honey is used because it seems to possess more healing properties than other types of honey. Extensive research on the healing power of Manuka Honey has been done by the University of Waikato in New Zealand. Their findings can be found at http://bio.waikato.ac.nz/honey/contents.shtml. Honeymark's Wound Relief Lotion is an extremely effective dressing for many different types of wounds. Business Communications estimates that the advanced wound-care market will hit $2.8 billion in 2008. It will be up to Honeymark to make sure the idea sticks. About Honeymark:
Honeymark is dedicated to improving the lives of its customers by producing the most innovative, highest quality of honey-based skin care products. Through the effective marketing of their website ( [http://www.honeymarkproducts.com] www.HoneymarkProducts.com) and the development of business relationships with distributors, Honeymark's goal is to become an industry leader of honey-based skin care products. Honeymark will be introducing an expanded product line in 2007.
